This is the 4th main Etrian Odyssey game in the series. Features more of the same old-school dungeoning and cartography as always.
It is a dungeon crawler series that’s more known for its intricate map exploration and somewhat difficult field midbosses (known as FOEs) that are also easily dispatched by exploiting their weaknesses via breaking their body parts.
Basically the game requires strategic gameplay or you won’t get very far in the game.
What’s new in this game is a new overworld in the form of the sky itself. You use an airship to explore the lands with your goal being the Yggdrasil tree in the lands farther to the North.
The dungeons on the way there is the same stuff as always though.
You could think of it like EO III’s ship exploration except it is more of a gigantic dungeon itself with monsters and obstacles and the dungeons are sub-realms within the big map.
