Super Mystery Dungeon is the latest installment in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series.
Unlike Gates of Infinity, this one is actually a good game.
Story-wise, it can’t top the glory of Explorers but it is still decent enough. The overall plot is exploring the world, which includes some previous regions and many, many cameos of characters from the previous games in one way of another.
How the game really shines is the gameplay, alot of stuff to do and some may call it grindy but if you’ve played the previous games, it’s the same deal. Lots of dungeoning.
The game is basically the same as previous games except the quest system has been replaced by the Connection Orb, which is the revamped version of the friends recruitment system of previous games. You help a certain Pokemon with his request and he joins you while introducing you to his friends/connections. With this, you have a enormous web of connections that give the game alot of side stuff to do but it is optional.
In terms of items, Oran Berries now raise your max HP temporarily in dungeons. There is also the addition of “Wands” which is a usable item that somewhat has the same effect as orbs except is single target and breaks after some uses.
Another gameplay change is the addition of “team attacks” where you press a specific button and tap the screen and your party will surround one enemy and attack him from multiple sides.
The game is much more difficult than previous games in the series though so abuse stuff as much as you need.
